Fireworks
As a reminder, Beach Day is a Town-sponsored event. Paid Parking will NOT be enforced in the Middleton Park Complex area, from SE 46th St – SE 49th St, throughout the entire day. All other areas will operate under normal enforcement. Paid Parking ends at 5:00 PM each day, and will not impact the Fireworks Display at the Oak Island Pier. Parking in all locations for all events is first-come, first-served.
For the Fireworks Display the Oak Island Police Department reminds everyone of the UPDATED Traffic Plan asking everyone to EXIT the Island using the Swain’s Cut Bridge at Middleton Ave.
While this route may be a slightly longer distance for some, it will make for faster travel for all, as it helps to avoid current traffic detours and construction on NC 211 / 133, and takes advantage of the shorter bridge and multiple lanes on E.F. Middleton Blvd.
Additionally, while driving please avoid distractions from phones, media devices, or other passengers, in order to help keep traffic moving steadily. Be sure to watch for pedestrians who may try to cross E Oak Island Dr.
Officers will be posted at major intersections and several locations along E Oak Island Dr., to help ensure safe traffic flow and direct as needed.
FIREWORKS SAFETY
Later this week, neighboring municipalities will hold professional fireworks displays to celebrate Independence Day. While celebrating with fireworks at home may seem fun, the Oak Island Fire Department strongly encourages everyone to leave such displays to the professionals.
In addition to NC General Statutes prohibiting the use of “explosive or aerial fireworks,” even personal, ground-based fireworks should be avoided as Brunswick County has issued a Burn Ban. Forecasts indicate conditions that are not favorable to open burning, which coupled with already dry conditions and extreme heat, can create significant fire hazards. In addition to fire danger, handheld fireworks can also cause significant property damage or severe injuries, leading to the loss of appendages or even death.
It is important to note that this ban DOES NOT affect municipal Fireworks Displays such as those planned on Beach Day, which have a Fire Protection Plan in place. For 2025, celebrate responsibly by enjoying the professional displays being hosted municipally.
